Edge Magic
Edge magic is not another school inside the Great Cycle. It works where the Cycle tears. By letting Body, Time, Memory or Function fall partly outside reality, a practitioner can reach impossible space - and risk becoming a person who is only partly present in the world.
Magic by Breaking the Cycle
Edge magic, also described as magic of the Beyond, is classified differently from every ordinary school. It does not combine intact elements of the Cycle. It works through rupture: Body, Time, Memory or Function is displaced, disconnected or thrown partly beyond the world. The active sources are therefore not normal materials such as gold or blood but the entities and territories of the boundary - cthulhuids, dark apes, deep vampires, demons, gates, catacombs and places where reality has already begun to lose its distinctions.
Its operations borrow recognizable effects from other schools but perform them by impossible means. Cthulhuid dream-geometry can warp space so walls flow and stairways lengthen. Shadow mirrors can remove Memory. Demonic "cases" can turn fate into something like legal procedure. The similarity is deceptive. A memory mage edits the archive while remaining within the world; an Edge working can make the archive partly cease to belong to the same world. A contract mage binds Function and Will; a Chancellery entity may treat the entire obligation as a file stored somewhere outside ordinary causality.
The price is disappearance of the self as a coherent participant in reality. The source calls it "falling out" of the world. Identity fragments, the practitioner becomes a border-being, and presence itself can become conditional - one step here, one step elsewhere. This is why Edge techniques are powerful at gates and on their own territory but do not fit the ordinary human hierarchy of battlefield strength. Their function is frequently threshold rather than conquest: to test, admit, divert or reject those descending toward the levels where the Primordial Gods and Black Sun become relevant.
Edge magic is therefore less a profession than an approach to cosmological failure. Humans can imitate or bargain with it, but the canonical examples are beings for whom broken reality is already habitat. The safest way to understand the school is negative: ordinary magic changes something that exists inside the Cycle; Edge magic changes whether the thing is still participating in the same Cycle at all.
