Dagger Mountains
The eastern approaches rise into blade-like mountains whose passes connect Velmir to hidden peoples, the Ancient Thicket and the Dragon Bone world. Every caravan route through them is also a corridor for relics, spies and old memory.
The East Narrows into Blades
The Dagger Mountains are named with unusual honesty. The eastern horizon is described as a line of peaks sharp enough to suggest weapons, with passes in which "every stone remembers blood." They separate Velmir from the Ancient Thicket and from the longer routes toward the Dragon Bone Dynasty. This makes the range more than a natural barrier. It is a filter: whatever crosses it has already survived terrain that punishes large armies, fragile supply chains and careless merchants.
The eastern traffic is sparse but consequential. Hidden peoples occupy parts of the region; rare merchants arrive from eastern kingdoms, sometimes aboard iron ships; caravans carry artifacts, alchemical knowledge and ritual materials. The Dragon Bone Dynasty's own strategic weakness is described in terms of this geography. Its magic can be engineering-heavy and exceptionally powerful, but its logistics must pass through the mountains and the Thicket. Cut the bones, chemicals and movement corridors, and much of that peak power collapses before the battle begins.
The range also places Velmir beside a different archive of the old world. Dragon Bone practice treats ancient remains as Memory fixed in matter, while the Thicket beyond the passes preserves druidic and living memory. The mountains stand between those systems like the spine of a book: stone, bone and forest on the same route. The Fire Comet that fell from the East and produced disease as well as alchemical revelations adds another layer of association, though the source does not establish that its impact occurred inside the range itself.
For Gildglade, the Dagger Mountains are a horizon from which knowledge arrives disguised as trade. A Dragon Bone scientific mission can bring food or gifts and ask, in return, for a laboratory near the Separation Node. An eastern caravan can be commerce, reconnaissance and excavation at once. The mountains do not determine the intentions of those who cross them. They merely ensure that anyone who does has already paid a price.
